Our Environmental Policy

Nature’s Gift not only recognises its responsibility for fostering responsible pet ownership but is also a signatory of the National Packaging Covenant (“NPC”). By backing the NPC objectives towards product stewardship, it demonstrates our commitment and recognition that the protection of our environment is a major responsibility for all Australians.

As a manufacturer we are very aware of our responsibility in relation to the resources used in our production, packaging and operations. We offer in-house education by addressing litter and recycling issues amongst all our employees. As a brand we assist the education process of the general public by encouraging recycling via our product labelling and website.

Our Environmental Commitment

At Nature’s Gift, we operate with many practices that are considered to be environmentally favourable. The following company initiatives demonstrate our past and ongoing commitment to the environment:

  • Water conservation is now a very real concern affecting our entire nation. Nature’s Gift has been an industry forerunner in reducing our consumption of water for manufacturing.  In 2005 we installed a water recycling / cooling tower system. Although initially an expensive outlay for our business, as a major water saving initiative, we now utilise 70% less water during our canning production process. Nature’s Gift further supports this ongoing environmental concern through a water usage and mapping program established with our local water authority, South East Water;
  • Nature’s Gift products are fresh meat based and a company initiative with our trade suppliers ensures all meat / vegetable production waste is collected and recycled by being processed into a blood and bone fertiliser;
  • In-house office and factory paper / cardboard / plastics recycling systems have been initiated, educating and expanding all employees’ awareness towards better litter and recycling practices;
  • All product deliveries are on wooden pallets which are reusable / returnable as per an agreed supplier exchange program;
  • All used plastic shrink wrap packaging is sorted and diverted from going to landfill waste, through an innovative in house plastic recycling program;
  • An environmentally friendly, biodegradable plastic show bag was researched and introduced in 2006 for our trade shows;
  • Nature’s Gift was issued a certificate in March 2006 in recognition of our participation and achievements through the “cansmart” campaign educating consumers on recycling steel can packaging; and
  • All Nature’s Gift steel can and aluminium tray labels carry consumer information for recycling or disposal.

Nature’s Gift is a conscientious and caring pet food manufacturer and has always endeavoured and will continue to deliver best practice environmental outcomes, within our means.
