Diet

Your cat's diet plays an important role in its overall health. Make sure your cat's food contains the proper nutrients.

Protein is not the only nutrient to look for in cat food. Taurine is an essential amino acid that all cats need to survive and can only be found in meat or eggs.

Canned or semi-dry food is considered to be the best for cats due to the (relative to dry cat food) lower levels of carbohydrate levels in these foods. Cats don't need carbohydrates and they can trigger food allergies or digestive problems.

Kittens need a higher fat content than adult cats. It's important to look for foods specifically formulated for kittens to ensure their bodies have the fat, protein and calories they need for physical development.

Cutting down on serving sizes and meal frequency can be a smart and healthy way to help your cat lose weight; this method of weight loss may also deprive your cat of essential nutrients in his diet. Consult with your veterinarian before starting a new diet routine.

Desexing

Not only does spaying or neutering your cat help reduce the cat population, there are health benefits. Desexed cats are less likely to fight and roam. Overall a desexed cat is a healthier and happier pet. Consult your veterinarian for advice.

Vaccinations

There are some feline diseases that can be fatal, we recommend consulting your veterinarian to discuss the course of vaccinations for your cat/kitten.

Flea Treatment / Worming

We recommend following a routine flea and worming treatment for your cat/kitten, there are many different applications and brands on the market, please consult your veterinarian to discuss the best treatment for your pet.

Identification / Microchipping

Your cat should be registered with your local council and wear a sturdy collar with an identification tag and telephone number attached. To ensure your pet is permanently identified a microchip cannot be lost. Microchipping is very safe and your cat will feel little or not pain, once inserted your pets details are put on a national database and if found your pet will be returned to you immediately. Contact your local vet for more information.
